Vestiges of a Horrible Past: The Henrietta Marie

The Henrietta Marie was a London-based slave ship that made two voyages — one in 1697 and 1698 – and it then wrecked during its second voyage, according to Malcom.

The ship likely carried somewhere between 200-240 people – but many of them were destined to die, according to Malcom.

The ship’s excavation has also uncovered a past world where humans were bought and sold and treated with cruelty not even reserved for the most vicious beasts.
